SERVE THE WORLD

Serve the World Opportunity

One of our teens is serving the world in a meaningful and simple way...you can be involved! See below...

2014 Holiday Card Drive - Send your greetings to our local troops who are currently serving in the Middle East.

One of our own, Kiara Kalmey, has taken the initiative to be a part of a wonderful organization that sends cards to our local troops who are currently serving in the military and would like to challenge her peers and adults to join her in this opportunity. These cards are such a blessing to the troops and what an encouragement it is for them.

The Guidelines are as follows:

* Remember that each card may be read by many service members.
* Cards may be homemade or store bought.
* Do NOT Put cards in envelopes. No Postage needed.
* All Cards & messages should be appropriate.
* Cards will be screened for security & sensitive issues.
* You may request a pen pal.
* Please sign all cards.
* NO ENVELOPES please - they just make the packages heavier and the shipping cost much higher.

We will accept cards in the student ministry room (the Studio) through Sunday November 16th.

A Note from Kiara:

"- You are not allowed to include any church and/or salvation pamphlets. However, you ARE allowed to say things like, "God loves you", "God will never leave you", and "I am praying that God will keep you safe".
- You must sign all cards. (You do not have to put your *last* name or what town/state you are writing from; I always sign them "From, Kiara")
- Some cards may be read by more than one service member, so just keep that in mind.

Anything else would basically just be to be genuine and compassionate in your messages. These people are away from their families during Christmas and are in scary situations, and I try to make my cards as kind and encouraging as I can. Just remember that your card can and probably will make a difference. Your card could brighten a service member's day. This is not mandatory, but I always make sure to thank the person for serving our country, and sometimes I will tell them how grateful I am for their bravery and sacrifice." - Kiara

W3 – Worth the Wait Weekend

W3 is a time especially set aside for parents to join with their son or daughter and discuss some important issues that they will be facing in their growing years.  At Crosswalk, we consider this a “milestone moment” – like parent dedication or baptism.  We would like to come alongside you and help in this next life stage that is so critical to cover.

If you have not already guessed from the title – Worth the Wait – our main topic for the weekend will be about sex, God’s plan for sex in our lives, and staying sexually pure until marriage.  For a variety of reasons many parents find this a difficult topic to broach and discuss at any length.  This is a great way for you to be sure you have opened the door to this important discussion.  You will also be letting your child know you find this topic important and their own sexuality important – leaving the door open for further talks down the road.

So how will we do this?  We’ll be listening to the well known Passport to Purity series CDs by Dennis and Barbara Rainey and taking time to do a workbook together as the topics are covered over the course of the weekend.  The gals will have a pampering type theme at a local hotel and the guys will be at Camp JoyEl for some outdoor activities.  The cost of the weekend is $115 to cover accommodations, food, and supplies.  We don’t want the cost to keep anyone from attending, so please let us know if you are in need of a partial scholarship.

Stop by the W3 table in the cafe/lobby for more details about the dates and times for W3.  Forms need to be turned in by February 23rd.

We are looking forward to this special weekend that we have planned for you!
